Autumn is quickly approaching, which means another season is coming up fast — Apple Season! That’s Apple with a capital “A.” (Sorry, cider fans…another day).
Another Apple Event has come and gone, and unless you’re in the tech industry or obsessively follow it (takes all kinds) you probably missed it.
If you did, allow me to summarize. It was a parade of self-congratulatory pageantry, and it was phenomenal.
Seriously, if you’ve never watched an Apple Event, I highly recommend it. It’s a gloriously insular world, and fascinating to watch through an anthropological lens.
Speaking of lenses, the iPhone 11 has two of them, but more importantly, it comes in GREEN!!!
I realize most of you are probably more concerned about the battery life (24 hours) and camera features, but don’t rain on my green parade.
The most meme-able (it’s a word-ish) feature is the new slofie feature. Yes, that’s slofie, as in slow selfies. It turns out there’s still room for innovation in the world of self-documentation.
Honestly, a new way to capture and create is always exciting. In some ways, phones have become a burden and distraction. In other ways, they’ve inspired and changed the world in radical and beautiful ways.
They’ve allowed us to capture and shape the human experience in new and exciting ways. They’ve literally changed the way we see the world and ourselves. Admittedly, it’s not all good, but that’s life, it’s always been a mix of the good and bad.
Personally, I’m excited to see what the inter-webs does with the slofie, but I would like to put the term slothies out there for your consideration. It works better with the British pronunciation (long “o”), but that just makes it more appealing (right?)
Okay, that’s all I have for you. Be brave, be kind, and good luck with those slothies (it’s going to happen).
P.S. — Today’s photos are brought to you by my personal paparazzi, not the iPhone 11, some rain-soaked cobblestones, a few street lamps, and a whole lot of charm.
