Happy Golden Globe Awards Eve! Speaking of eves, I couldn’t pass on another opportunity to gush about “Killing Eve.”
If you haven’t heard about this spy-thriller drama yet, you will tomorrow night. One of the evening’s hosts, Sandra Oh, co-stars in it and is up for Best Actress in a Television Series – Drama. And the show itself is up for Best Television Series – Drama.
On the surface it may look like your standard hour-long spy-thriller drama (whatever that is), but I promise you it’s not.
For one thing, it’s a story a centered around two women, one is assassin Villanelle (Jodie Comer), the other is MI5 officer Eve (Sandra Oh). Which is a combination that is pretty much unheard of in the genre. Add in the fact that behind the camera the show is written and run by another woman, the brilliant Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and you have a true unicorn of a show.
Of course, all that means nothing if the show itself isn’t compelling, and I assure you it is. The cat and mouse relationship between Villanelle and Eve is captivating and cringe-worthy. It’s messy, funny, sweet, obviously complicated, and completely riveting.
If you’re still on the fence, consider the fact that the series was renewed for a second season before even one episode had aired and that you can binge the first few episodes here (if you’re in the US) or all of them here (if you’re in the UK) or all of them here (if you’re into Hulu).
If you’re still here after being provided with three perfectly good links and several hours of quality binging material, well…check out the clip below.
…just for fun:
