There is a lot of seemingly pointless research conducted in the name of science. This is not one of those instances.
A study conducted at the University of Roehampton in London found that goats prefer happy people. Yes, you read that right, goats like it when we smile. That’s nice, right? Your happiness makes goats happy. That’s sweet, adorable, and your probably still wondering why someone wanted to know this. Right?
The study was designed to determine if animals besides dogs and horses can read human facial expressions, and it turns out goats can. Researchers found that goats tended to favor people who looked happy.
True, for some of our sad, relatively goat-free lives, this means next to nothing. Although, you can now get all the goats to love you at goat yoga.
However, it does tells us that goats are much more intelligent than previously assumed. Which tends to be a factor when it comes to livestock treatment.
And that, in my opinion, is something to smile about.
