The Olympics are about many things. They’re about building bonds, strengthening friendships, making new connections, the spirit of competition, and, to a certain degree, winning.
Of course, even at the Olympics, there are different types of winning. Yes, there’s the glory of standing on the podium, and accepting a medal (and stuffed tiger) that validates all hard work you’ve put in. But if Twitter has taught us nothing else, you don’t have to win a medal to win the hearts (or at least the snark) of the viewing public.
For example, the Norway men’s curling team is currently tied for 7th, but they’re first in fashion thanks to their Valentine’s Day themed pants.
There’s also Matt Hamilton of the US curling team, who’s tied for third, but winning the Mario look-alike contest.
Really, the key is in knowing yourself, and where your strengths lie. Just look at Tonga’s Pita Taufatofua who is so good at carrying the Tonga flag, they let him do it at both Olympics.
Of course, sometimes you can have your cake (or part of your breakfast sandwich), adorably hangry tweet, and eat it (aka win gold) too…as Chloe Kim demonstrated.
…just for fun:
A little back story on the other, non-competitor stars of the Olympics…
