This What to Watch Wednesday just so happens to be National Coloring Book Day, a day that to some might be about staying inside the lines. Still, today I can’t help but think about those who dare to defy convention and color outside the lines that so many are confined (and in some cases defined) by.
So today I thought I’d share a few shows that push those limits and go beyond the norms for some truly great (mind-expanding) entertainment…
Full Frontal with Samantha Bee
Beyond the obvious glass ceiling of late night television here, Samantha Bee’s half hour pushes boundaries in its coverage of the conversations of the moment. Of late that’s meant lots and lots and lots of politics and this incredible team has risen to the challenge (and received an Emmy nod in the process). While part of me looks forward to the day they’re free to focus on news beyond the White House, all of me can’t help but applaud this hilarious and hella smart crew.
The Incredible Jessica James
Full disclosure: I had a pre-existing condition of absolutely adoring Jessica Williams (she celebrated her birthday with J.K. Rowling, guys!) and Chris O’Dowd, so I was pretty much Netflix’s demographic dream here. However, biases aside, this Netflix original movie about an aspiring playwright who teaches theater to inner-city youths celebrates the quirky, awkward, and beautiful moments in life and is 100% adorable.
