Hamiltonian’s, we won!
#Womenon20s movement, congrats! We won too!
Those still fiercely opposed to Andrew Jackson’s presence on the $20, you too have come out victorious!
In case you haven’t guessed already, today the US Treasury officially announced that Alexander Hamilton will remain on the $10, and that a woman will replace Jackson on the $20.
The change came after a strong reaction to their announcement last year that Hamilton would be removed from the $10 and be replaced by a woman. Those of us who are both feminists and fans of Hamilton experienced a wide range of conflicting emotions, then voiced our opinions.
Nearly a year later, it seems we were heard.
The other big announcement, the lucky lady who will be replacing Jackson is none other than Harriett Tubman. It’s a truly brilliant choice considering Jackson was himself a slaveowner.
Believe it or not, some have taken issue with this choice, and not in the way you might think. But that’s a topic for another day. For now let’s relish our victory. Congrats to all of today’s victors!
