…Go Rogue

694px-Star_Wars_LogoThe force was strong this week. First, Tuesday saw the release of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” on Blu-ray and DVD. Then that excitement was quickly followed by Thursday’s debut of the first teaser trailer for “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.”

If you’re wondering what the heck “Rogue One” is, well you’re probably not a full-blown nerd, but I’ll help you out anyway. “Rogue One,” is the first in a new three-part anthology. It’s also the first big-screen Star Wars film to venture outside the core saga (ie – Luke, Leia, and their family tree will not be at the center of the film).

What we also learned this week, is that we’re getting another strong female (played by Felicity Jones). Which isn’t exactly a surprise, but it was still kind of cool to see another bad-ass female character in action.

Of course, the interwebs were not without their negative reactions. As you can imagine, some were concerned about the female take over of the Star Wars universe. After all, we’re now up to four main characters who are female. The poor boys only have, Luke, Anakin/Darth Vader, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Han Solo, Chewbacca, Yoda, Jar Jar Binks…have I made my point yet?

Thankfully, the complaints were far and few between, since most of the Star Wars fandom can get behind another strong, female lead.

Now that we’ve exhausted the “is this really still an issue for people” topic, there’s also a lot of other cool, nerdy things in the trailer. For one, the film appears to have matched the original trilogy just as well (if not better) as “The Force Awakens,” did.

Also, look what’s back…

Yep, that’s the Death Star.

Basically, it was a good week for nerds. This should be enough to tide us all over until the next teaser or (gasp) full-length trailer (we can dream).

Or I suppose there’s the mere 251 days until it hits theaters…

  1. Just when I thought it was safe to leave the theater…

  2. now wait a minute, assigning a gender to Chewbacca and Jar-Jar Binks is slightly overboard – sure, Chewbacca seems masculine and I’m not a Star Wars’ expert, but I don’t remember a “female” wookie…
