“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”

Martin Luther King, Jr.

As I’m sure you know, today we remember Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., a man whose dream is still moving us forward.

Dr. King’s message was a simple one—equality.

It’s a goal that, while we’ve made massive strides towards, still remains out of reach in many ways. It’s easy to get frustrated and angry about the inequalities that remain, and while anger has its strength in finding the motivation that’s needed to overcome lingering prejudice, it’s a fine line.

“Never succumb to the temptation of bitterness.”

Martin Luther King, Jr.

So, today as we remember the incredible Dr. King, and carry on his dream, remember not only our weaknesses, but our strengths, because for all of our shortcomings we have done great things.

  1. it’s all relative…I think great progress has been made, but full disclosure, I’m not in a class that is discriminated against very much…I do think celebrating progress has its place in a not-finished struggle in reminding all of what we can achieve…
