It’s here theater fans! It’s Tony Day! The one day of the year we get to cleverly weave our obsession into popular dialogue. Or at least it was the one day of the year, until NBC launched their live musical series…seriously NBC, just tell us who is playing Peter Pan!
Anyways, back to the Tony Awards.
Today is Broadway’s day to take center stage, and as an added bonus, Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) is hosting. So we’re crossing our fingers that there’s an X-Men musical number.
Enjoy the day fellow theater enthusiasts. Here’s 2WC’s picks for this evenings top honors:
Zer-“A Gentleman’s Guide to Love & Murder”
Stephanie- “A Gentleman’s Guide to Love & Murder”
Zer- “Act One”
Stephanie- “All the Way” (Starring Bryan Cranston…the man can’t lose this year.)
Best Revival of a Musical:
Zer- “Hedwig and the Angry Inch”
Stephanie- “Hedwig and the Angry Inch”
Best Revival of a Play:
Zer- “The Glass Menagerie” ( Okay, so this is the only Tony nominated show I saw this year, but it truly was phenomenal.)
Stephanie- “The Glass Menagerie” (It’s one of my favorite plays, and the only show I actually saw this year.)
…and we’ll spare you our rant on the unfairness of snubbing Zachary Quinto’s performance in “The Glass Menagerie”. Daniel Radcliffe knows what we’re talking about. That is, we’ll spare you our rant and share this wonderful quote from Anna Wintour (as part of The New York Times’ Tony coverage) on some inexplicable snubs this season:
My only question: Why were ‘The Glass Menagerie’s’ Zachary Quinto and ‘The Cripple of Inishmaan’s’ Daniel Radcliffe, both of whom gave superb (and critically lauded) performances, overlooked? Movie stars don’t deserve Tony nominations just because of who they are, but surely it shouldn’t be held against them either.” – Ms. Wintour
Your time will come Mr. Spock and Harry Potter, once the Tony committee forgets that you once played Mr. Spock and Harry Potter.
