This week, NBC reclaimed their title as the live-musical network, by announcing their plans for 2015’s live musical.
Right on the heels of Fox’s “Grease” announcement, NBC has come back with an announcement of their own: “The Music Man” will be their next, next live musical production.
That’ll be after “Peter Pan” of course, a production for which we are still waiting on the casting announcement…patiently…sort of…
Nonetheless, if this is what the world of television has come to, one-upping the latest network to announce a live televised performance of a classic musical, then there can be no denying it, we truly must be living in the golden age of TV.
So, while we wait for the next move we thought we’d daydream about Harold Hill and Marian Paroo and the rest of “The Music Man” cast.
Harold Hill: Zachary Levi—While his most well-known role, Chuck Bartowski, might make him an obvious choice for the much goofier role of Marcellus, we think he’d make a pretty dashing con man. You know the kind of con man who sells marching bands.
Marian Paroo: Kristen Bell—While she may be a bit young to be considered an “old maid,” she has the vocal chops and then some to do this part justice. Of course, if Ms. Underwood is available, this role seems closer suited to her style of acting.
Marcellus: Christian Borle—We have one thing to say on the matter: Shipoopi.
Mayor Shinn and Eulalie Mackechnie Shinn: Matthew Broderick and Kristin Chenoweth—It would be so perfect, there aren’t words for how perfect it would be.
CBS and ABC, the musical theater ball is in your court.
