…Let It Shine

The Olympic flame—one of the most iconic and powerful symbols of the spirit, and something that is strangely missing from this summer’s games.

After making a spectacular entrance as each flaming petal folded into a fiery blossom, the olympic cauldron has been missing in action.

Okay, so it’s not exactly missing. It’s just tucked safely away inside the Olympic Stadium. Okay, so it’s relatively safe…it only went out once…that we know of.

But the point is, it won’t be visible to anyone (except a select few) until the track and field events begin. Even then, it will only be seen by those with tickets to the events, and those watching on television.

With an official slogan of “Inspire a Generation,” it seems odd to hide the symbol that has inspired so many. Perhaps, they will be more inspired, now that they’re being kept out in the dark.

  1. another “shining” example of the power of “group-think” – did these folks not grow up with “This little light of mine” or Papa Bush’s “thousand points of light” or any of 1,000 other references to the power of letting your light shine???

  2. Who's with me?

Haven’t we had enough heat, drought and global warming. I, for one, support a new symbol…. the “Olympic Fountain” for the summer games and the good, old “Olympic Flame” for the winter games. Mini olympic party fountains could be full of Chardonnay in France, Reisling in Germany Ouzo in Italy and Greece, Moon Shine in the USA, Vodka in Russia, Sake in Japan and China, and Tequila in Mexico, etc.
